  • Combining single coil and mini humbuckers

Hi Everyone - I built a 7 string Warmoth guitar with 3 single coil pup routes. I put in custom Seymour Duncan mini humbuckers similar to hot rails for all 3. The middle and neck sound too similar so I was thinking about buying a VINTAGE STAGGERED™ STRAT - 7 STRG SSL-1 7S and trying it in the middle or neck if I don’t like it in the middle. I’m using a 5 way selector so I’m wondering if putting this single coil in with the mini humbuckers will result in phase or hum issues. I assume the issues, or lack thereof, would be the same with the 6 string versions of the pups since someone is more likely to have that experience. Any thoughts? Thanks – Doug.

    welcome to the forum!

other than the single coil has the potential to hum, you shouldnt have any issues that cant be fairly easily fixed. no different than the six string versions

Keep in mind, if you have something similar to Hot Rails in there, there could be a big volume jump down when you switch to the single coil.

Thanks for both replies. I ordered the single coil and will try it!
