  • High Resistance Reading but Low Output?

I just got a set of Artec SDMA noisless Strat pickups that read at 12.5k resistance but they are very quiet.

I know there are a number if factors that affect how puckups sound but I'm a bit surprised at how low the output seems. They sound great, but only have the output equivalent to 5-6k vintage pups, when I was wanting a high output set.

I'd be interested in any explanation.

    Thx

High Resistance Reading but Low Output?

Noiseless pickups are typically one coil stacked on top of the other. The two coils are reverse polarity. That causes a lot of phase cancellation. You lose low end and output. So they are typically over wound to compensate with thinner than normal wire, which increases the resistance reading.

It’s common to see 25k stacked pickups which wound like normal single coils.

I did a stacked Tele bridge pickup once that was about 14k. It was medium output and very bright.
