The EVH does not sound the same as an 59, the latter uses an A5 magnet and is a PAF style humbucker, the EVH uses an A2 magnet and is slightly hotter, but also a PAF style humbucker!
That really depends on what amp you're using!Correct. My point was that my opinion is the EVH isn't worth the money. It sounds thin and pinched to me, and that the 59 gets more of an EVH tone than the namesake pickup.
While I haven't heard an EVH, I agree with you a hundred percent that you can get close to HIS sound with the custom custom, though to my ears, with my playing, it sounds like some of his newer tones than the first ones. I failed to include the CC in my post, :smack: but it's definitely one to consider as well.theodie said:The EVH's tone is by FAR closest to a Custom Custom!!!!!! Yes you might be able to get a few Van Halen tones with a 59 or JB but, the Custom Shop EVH sounds like a little lower powered custom custom. Quite honestly, when I had a custom shop EVH I asked myself, "why didnt I save my money and buy another Custom Custom"? They are that similair.

Majestic said:A CC is too dense, too muddy, not nearly clear enough for many who prefer PAF style pickups. The EVH is MUCH closer to a PAF's output than the Custom line.
Not even close, actually.
He could buy a Hybrid from BachtoRock with an A2 magnet and come much closer to the EVH tone than by going the CC route.
