  • Stack P90 bobbin crack

    Hi all.

There are some cracks on the bobbin of my stack P90.
    Does this happen often?

It's not uncommon. During the late 90's and early 00's they were using a type of plastic which was very brittle. I have a JB and the bobbins just crumbled over time.

I have a few white humbuckers (an Alnico II Pro & Custom Custom) with several cracks. SD themselves asked to look at them after seeing a picture on social media, and I uninstalled them and sent them back. They inspected them and shipped them back to me...no issues other than the cracks.

Here's the POS screw coils from one of their early 00's JB's. It's been glued a dozen times because the plastic they used is garbage. I haven't been hammering on this pickup either because I have 80's bobbins with zero cracks.

I don't think any of my cracks went all the way through. These have never affected the sound or operation.

One of the coils of my JB died when the bobbin fell apart.
