  • Custom 5 with different A5 magnets

So after trying a bunch of pickups in my charvel natural series custom, I'm going back to the C5, as it turns out this guitar goes better with the scooped mids thing....

Only problem I have with the C5 is the fact its a bit hot for my tastes...but I do like that scooped sound.

Will an UOA5 magnet affect the the mids significantly? Or a roughcast? Let me know what tonal changes I could expect if I swap out A5 mags..

    Thanks

Have you played with pickup height?

The UOA5 makes the Custom 5 a little squishier and a little more midsy. It's a good sound but it may or may not be what you're looking for. I settled on a roughcast A5 in mine; basically just like the stock A5 with subtly less piercing highs. If you just want less output I don't think either of those will give you what you want. Lowering the pickup might help somewhat.

Just changing the magnet isn't going to noticeably reduce the output or make it "less hot". If you like mid-scooped but want less output go with a C/59 hybrid or even a '59.
