  • Making Hybrids/Phase issues

Follow along with me for a sec..

if I were to take 2 screw coils from otherwise normal humbuckers ie a JB and a Custom or whatever, and try to make a double screw hybrid - what am I going to run into as far as phase issues?

Normally one of the coils is reverse wound, and opposite polarity. Obviously the orientation of the magnet takes care of the polarity differences between coils, but does wiring inversely (ie normal ground becomes hot and normal hot becomes gound) effectively do the same thing as reverse winding?

might be a stupid question but I'm a stupid sorta guy. sometimes.

Almost all humbuckers have the coils wound the same direction, but connected reverse polarity. (Start-to-start, or finish-to-finish.). It's middle Stratocaster pups that are reverse wound. You won't have any problem.

When you take the tape off, look carefully and just reconnect black-to-black or white-to-white internal coil wires.
