  • The JB

So I usually keep at least one JB in the pickup drawer at all times. There’s usually more than one, if I’m honest. Some times I’ll get a guitar and cycle a few pickups through trying to find the voice of the guitar that I am searching for. Ans when all else fails, I’ll slap a JB in.

I recently picked up a Charvel DK24 HH HT with a mahogany body and poplar burl top. It came loaded with an A2P in the neck and a Full Shred in the bridge. In this particular guitar, the Full Shred sounded like a single-coil. And not I n a pleasing way. I cycled a few boutique pickups through the guitar, but nothing sounded “right.” Then I decided to just throw a JB in. And bingo. The tone I was hoping for suddenly exploded out of the guitar.

I always laugh when that happens. And am thankful that I always have a JB laying around the house somewhere.

From my perspective, JB's are funny... When they work there's nothing better. And when they don't work, there's no chance of tweaking the other variables to get it to play nicely :-)

But very much wish I had a drawer full of of JB's :-)

My Jackson DXMG with a JB in the bridge. It came with EMG HZ3'S. Then it got a JB for a while. After the JB I tried a Crunchlab just for kicks. Eventually, the JB found its way back in, and I think that it's staying.

You either love it or hate it.

Obviously, there are MANY who love it.

I personally don't love it and would never consider keeping one in a guitar let alone a spare one in my drawer.

It's always a great time when you find the tone that you hear in your head. It's the perfect combination of guitar, pickup, musical style you play, and tone that you love.

            Time to celebrate.

There is a reason it's the best selling pickup in history.

Like everything, it's a personal taste thing.

Me neither. But hey, it is the sound that people hear in their head when you mention 'hard rock'. That's pretty iconic.

Incredible pickup. My second favorite Duncan.

Also try the Fishman Fluence Classic!
