  • Another hex screw question

So I’ve been searching and searching and can’t find an answer to this.
Has anyone put the full shred hex screws in a DD pickup set???
If so what was the effect???
I would try it myself but I don’t have any.
    Thanks

I didn't put them in a Distortion, but every pickup I've put hex-heads in scooped the mids of the pickup pretty noticeably.

i only tried it with the 59n (in one row only, of course). less woofy and tighter. that wasn't the only change but it was too short of an experiment and too long ago, to remember correctly. But the first part I definitely remember.

You know, I've tried a full shred set with every combination of hex and standard poles.

I didn't hear much of a difference. i thought I may have heard more bass with 2 set of standards, but I'm not really sure.

I guess the effect is more subtle?

Gives it clicky attack. Focuses the sound a bit higher without truly adding much highs.

Interesting. So am I correct saying that putting full shred hex screws in both neck and bridge it will tighten the lows possibly scoop some mids and give the upper mids and highs more attack?
So let’s talks thread length. Has anyone tried extra short screws to where the don’t pass through the base plate and or not even into the magnet section??
I was messing around with a jazz neck and I took the screws out completely and I really like the single coil tone but hated the look. So I was thinking about extra short screws just to keep the look. What are you thoughts???

So another question: is there any change in tone switching from a 3/4” fillister screw to a 3/4” hex screw. I’ve been searching and everything that I find about hex screws, its always referring to the 1/2” screws

The alloy of the 3/4” fillister and 3/4” hex screw will probably not be the same, so that alone will make a difference.
The hex head will have slighty more mass and will change the exit of the magnetic fields.
If that difference really matters, i don't know.

Comparing same length screws, the hex should give the pup a bit more brightness/less bass.
