  • Alternative Passives to actives

So I have a guitar that I tried numerous pickup in and non of them sounded good at all until I put a set of the Mick Thompson EMTY in. They brought this guitar to LIFE. Anyways I’m not a fan of having to use batteries because sometimes I might not use that guitar for long periods of time I was wondering if there was a passive version but with an ever SO slightLY increase in the lows/low mids.
Is there anything out there or would this a custom shop thing?

Well, passives don't sound or behave (feel) like actives, so it is hard to do a 1:1 comparison. A passive set with great low mids though is the Black Winter set.

A lot of people mentioned the black winters set but I’ve tried the distortion set in this particular guitar and it was still pretty dark sounding and lacking that upper mid bite and highs. Also from what alot of people say about the bw set is there’s more mids which I feel would be bad for this guitar. The only other SD pickups that look similar eq wise are the full shred set but the way Seymour does their eq chart the FS set could be completely different

The Full Shred set is basically the brightest humbuckers SD make. There is not much bass or mids. If you have an especially bassy or mid heavy guitar (or just love pickups that are bright), then they are a good option.

So having never using the full shred or heared a set in person, how would compare the two pickups (mainly the bridge) eq wise. Second question does the full shred push the front of your amp. I know it wont be anything like the emty. Thanks

            Compare which 2 pickups?

As far as how it pushes the amp, it is probably considered 'medium output'. It pushes similarly to the Custom (but different EQ).

If you will have long periods of time where you don't use the guitar, that should mitigate part of the downside of using batteries.
You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright
Whilst you can only wonder why

Yes, it's the Lithium rechargables that have a notable self discharge and are not the best option if you don't use it for a long time.
On a normal 9V-Block Battery it's not very high, so i also don't follow the reasoning...

The EMTYs will have more low end.

I would try some Parallel Axis models.

The dimebucker is completely different sounding. From experience with the dime bucker it had to much of a scooped mids going on.
