  • 5150II + 'Pop Metal'

Worked a bit more on that other song I had, figured I'd start a new thread to avoid clutter.

Gat chain was Schecter w/85 -> OD808 -> 5150II -> Mesa 4x12 -> SM57. Minimal post processing. Drums = DFHS, as usual. Bass is a pitch shifted DI guitar, and all clean guitars were PODxt.

I like it, definitely can tell that EMG + 5150 sound in any recording.

I heard alot of creed sounding vibes coming from the first parts.. heheh. The rest was ok, but i like the tone better than the first one you did. Keep going! and id like to hear the clean from the amp too just for comparison.

Oh god, no you don't. The JSX has nice cleans... the 5150 doesn't have cleans! Seriously, it's incredibly bland and sterile. If things kick off with this new drummer, I'll be picking up a G-Major and floorboard in about a month - the cleans are absolutely horrid without verb/delay/compression/chorus.

Yea, 5150 cleans are really not pleasant on their own.

Man ... every time I listen to a clip of yours, I think I should pick up DFHS. Then again, my style actually calls for a techno-like vibe some of the time, and the funny thing is I think DFHS sounds too organic for that! lol! Mainly though, I can't afford the damn thing at the moment.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the song itself, but you make it sound damn good. I'm not big on metal that has pop elements to it. I either want metal or I don't - nothing in between. That's just me though.

My thoughts exactly..it sounds huge but the song doesn't speak to me.

                      All comments/criticisms greatly appreciated .

It's definitely not my usual style - I'm going for more of a 'Nightshade' vibe with this one, albeit not nearly as depressing or melancholy.

I need to change a few parts and get rid of the drum/clean crap at the end - was just messing around there. On a bit of a dry spell, writing wise, right now .

It happens. You'll get going again.

I should point out that I hold your work to a pretty high standard, and my comments reflect that. If you were some n00b, I'd say this was an oustanding song.

I really like your lead part over at the end, nice vibe, but I am not in to happy metal all that much, but sometimes it's nice to mix it up. But I must admit I love the JB+JSX tone you had in other clips, that was METAL !

Nice tasty little bit ya got in there near the end. Definitely a tune that would need some strong vox.

Happy Metal or whatever, it's a cool song. Some parts of the arrangement feel a little sparse, but the tone is huge and the playing is surgically tight as always.

I'm having a writing dry spell myself at the moment. I have a dozen cool little parts, progressions, and ideas floating around at the moment but every time I try to turn one into a song it dies on the vine.

I think I need some fresh inspiration. Maybe you do too?
