  • Dream Theater Cover

    hey guys

this is a cover recording of one of my favorite Dream Theater songs, and one of my all time favorites aswell. its an amazing piece of music, and i think anyone who hasnt heard it before, whether if he is into DT or not, should check it out.
its the second track in Scenes From a Memory.

my version is lame in comparison. i didnt have much time to spend on it (about 15 minutes maybe), so i kinda rushed it and its far from being what i want it to be, but it'll have to do . the backing is a MIDI arragment.
i used my Ibanez on the bridge position for pretty much all of it except for the middle of the solo in which i used the neck position.

please check it out if you want at:

hope you'll like it, Dream Theater is great!
    Guitars:

    -Admira spanish classical guitar

    - Line6 POD 2.3 Rack with poweramp and cab
    - Marshall 1st Generation Valvestate combo

**** man, hats off to you, amazing playing on this

the only bit that didnt sound right was the intro, but unless you have a volume pedal thats not your fault at all.

shame the backing track isnt up to the standard of the original.

      very awesome!

        thanks bro
but like i said, i did it very sloppy, and volume knobs on the guitar are realy not the way to get that effect
and yes, MIDI sucks ass. Portnoy Myung and Rudess couldnt come to record with me and have dinner so i had to go to plan B

yeah there was one part where you went slightly out of time, just before the second keyboard solo i think, but other than that it was very good

I think it's called "Overture 1928". It's nice, tho I think you hit the notes differently than Petrucci, and it has a different feel b/c of this. Your sound is much more percussive, and I'm not sure it works, sonically. Musically, it's cool. You did a nice job with it. The MIDI background sounds horrible ...

You're the one that turned me onto DR Strings. Are you still using them?

                            Re: Dream Theater Cover

                            thanks alot you guys!

                            hahaha
Twilight bro, yes i did hit the notes differently, and damn well on purpose too.
i didnt want it to sound exactly like Petrucci, my style is different than his, and im not copying him.
i added some notes, and changed the way some notes feel, did a different vibrato and tried to give it a more legato-ish feel, petrucci's sound is much more "precise" and "tight", which is cool but its not the way i play.
i think of it more like paying tribute to this amazing song. and yes its called Overture 1928.
the midi IS pretty awful, but like i said DT couldnt make it for dinner so..

biu, you got gear i would wish for myself. keep it
about DR strings, they are awsome, but i dont use them so frequently anymore. this was recorded with a set of Snarling Dogs 9-42 they have great bite and awsome clarity, and they last alot longer. i usually play 10 gauge strings, but i dunno the Ibanez plays so damn greaat with how its set up right now that im realy afraid to alter anything haha
