  • Strats & Stags & Stuff . . .

This yet another of those "demo" clips, that might help someone get a better feel for how a Stag Mag sounds. But there's also a little more in here. Perhaps too much, making the file sizes too large.

This just a simple F C G Am chord progression played on several different guitars and pickups. The main idea was to compare the Stag Mags to a couple different Strats, and my Peavey Generation. I used my J-Station to record with, but kept the cabinet simulation turned off, so that the sound of the p'ups themselves would come through. Once I set the EQ and levels, I never moved them again - just moved the cord from one guitar to another.

    The sequence is as follows:

Squier Bullet Strat: neck and middle
Squier Bullet Strat: middle and bridge
    Johnson Strat: neck and middle
    Johnson Strat: middle and bridge
    Peavey Generation: neck and middle
Peavey Generation: middle and north coil of bridge humbucker
Peavey Patriot: 59n w/ north coil of Stag Mag bridge
Peavey Patriot: 59n w/ south coil of Stag Mag bridge
Peavey Patriot: Stag Mag bridge - humbucking mode
Peavey Patriot: Stag Mag bridge - north coil
Peavey Patriot: Stag Mag bridge - south coil

I speak the selection in the file to make easy to follow. Both files are kinda large, so you may, or may not want to bother with listening.

Quick note: The Johnson Strat sounded much fuller, and richer in person. There's definitely a bit of tone lost in the recording process.
