NLMD! The Audix VX-5

Whooooo boy!

New Live Mic Day...just popped down to a local guitar shop, saw that they had an Audix VX-5 used for $139.00. I had read some pretty positive reviews about this mic, so I decided to give it a whirl.

Plugged it in, and was floored. Friggin awesome.

So, I went over to the people running the counter and said, all nonchalantly, "Yeah, it's pretty cool. Is this price as low as we can go on this one?"

So they checked their computers and said they could do it for $115.



Score. $250 mic for $115 ain't bad.

As for the mic, I'm loving it. Warrrrmmmmmm, perfect match for my voice. I always hated the way an SM58 made me sound, this thing smooths everything out nicely.

I really want to do a comparison clip between this one, the SM58, and my Sterling Audio ST66 tube condenser. Sounds like an interesting shoot-out .

Aye, my production skills aren't likely to have improved much. Haven't done much in the mean time, can't say I'm likely to get much better results to be honest.

Vocals, though...I might be able to hold my own a little better now. Now I just gotta decide what to record...
