I've just got my self a MacBook Pro, and would like to have a play with Garageband. What do I need to be able to connect my guitar to it??

I've got a Behringer V-Amp 2, put I'm not sure of the best way to use it with Garageband.

    Any ideas??

    Hey Stevie,

You'll need a unit that can accept a 1/4" instrument cable and send its output via USB to the MacBook. (Do the new MacBooks have FireWire as well?)

I'm not familiar with the V-Amp.

Yeah, it's got a Firewire connection. I've got a connector that connects the V-Amp via its MIDI connection to USB, but looks like I'll be getting myself a Firewire connector and/or audio-USB!!!

      Cheers Keith.

Not sure if you'll need Firewire. I read something a while back stating that USB 2.0 is equal in speed to Firewire. But, I read it on the Interweb, so there ya go.

I've used USB-MIDI devices for years (M-Audio MIDISport UNO) and haven't detected any abnormal lag. Then again, that was straight MIDI triggering, not audio. Audio always ran in through the 1/8" soundcard connector.

AS long as you don't get nasty cheap ones most will do the trick fine.

Garage band is a good place to start with sequencing software as it's pretty easy to use, but the functionality is pretty limited once ya up and running.

Yeah, I'm thinking of giving Logic Express a blast once I get going. I've seen a Behringer guitar-USB connector that seems ok for the money...

stevie, is it a new one?!

just try a 1/4 inch to headphone adaptor! the headphone and mic sockets are the same (dumb, i know).

                            look what you can buy!

Yeah, it's a new one. So I should be able to plug straight in to the headphone socket then? I could just run my V-Amp straight into it and use Garageband that way...
