  • D.U. The Original Version

Most of you probably don't know it but the Commonly Known version of Down Under by Men At Work is a remake. The Original version was an independent single that they financed themselves and sold at gigs. It didn't sell many copies and what little that did sell is probaly languishing in a forgotten record collection somewhere, or dicarded.

I had a copy given to me by John the bass player with them. It was some years down the track after the success of the remake. He had a pile of them at his place, that had never been sold.

So here it is, a chance to hear it as it first was. [ I probaly shouldn't do this but WTH. It's all but forgotten about.]

Thanks for posting that. I am a Men At Work fan and I also love hearing original versions of songs. They give glimpses into where the band came from and an opportunity to see raw talent. It was nice to see the basis framework of the song intact in that version. It shows Colin & Ron's songwriting talent before any real success occurred.

I don't know if it's because it's the first time I'm hearing it, but I like this version a LOT better than the commercial one. Great post man, thank you!
      My songs....enjoy! (hopefully )

Very cool!! Vocally, I prefer the commercial hit more, but I really like the response effects here. Plus, I also like to see how songs mature and like to hear things without the over production glitz.
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.
