I've not listened to this song in years but I still like the arrangement, though I would mix it TOTALLY different today! It's an interesting song, goes through some cool mood changes.
This is taken from my 2015 album based on the Edgar Allan Poe novel The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, a pretty muddled story but it has some great elements and was very influential in its time. Coupled with Poe's penchant for rather brutal violence, it has a few moments that can even make a modern reader take notice, once you unpack his dense prose.
The gang vocals were tracked with a friend's band who had a rehearsal space in Williamsburg Brooklyn. We just got a bottle of Bulleit and shouted our brains out for 2 hours, was loads of fun.
