somewhere between the 15th fret and where the hand goes if I play palm mutes
or where I get the sickest pinch harmonics

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

For most rhythm work I'd say around somewhere in the middle (unless palm muting), but it varies. Lead work varies even more. I like to take advantage of the different positions in order to breathe more nuance and expression to my sound.

Depends. Usually I'm near the bridge for palm muting, but I've also picked almost over the neck. It depends on the solo / rhythm that I'm playing. There are some that I've played almost onto the fretboard.

Nowadays I try to pick in the middle or nearby the bridge pickup..it has more clarity and I have more control over the string because of the tension..I like that but I must get used to it.

Right between the two 'buckers for both leads and rhythm. Because palm muting places my pick right in the middle, I move away because I'd rather not jump back to mute. String is tighter in there for fast lead picking, but not so close to the bridge that you get that steel twang.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

When playing rhythm and leads, I play in the middle, mostly. Sometimes while I'm playing lead I may play closer to the neck, sometimes almost playing on the neck.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

i'm mostly playing near the neck, especially when im playing lead.

but i try to change the position a bit that the sound isn't too mellow.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Usually I end up picking right over the bridge edge of the neck pickup.

Though I often move the position around to get different sounds (especially on acoustic)

With all of you dudes picking in the middle... how are more of you not bothered by the middle Strat (SSS) pickup getting in the way?
