  • pretty noobish tuning question, but..

Well, I want to play some In Flames tracks, and currently I have my guitar in standard tuning, I haven't played long enough to tune by ear, therefore I use a tuner to tune my guitar, but it can only tune in standard, so if I wanted to tune to C,G,D#,A#,F,A# how could I do it?

when using the tuner, hold down the frets on the strings which has the same note as the standard tuning.

for eg. you want to get a C tuning for your low E string, hold down your 5th fret on the 6th string and check with the tuner.

So, if we take the example you said, I should hold down the 5th fret, and then I should just tune it as normally with the 5th fret held down? And it should still say "E" on the tuner like normally?

oh, of course when turning the machine heads dont hold the fret down. only hold down the frets when checking with the tuner . yeah, it should show E on the tuner like your standard tuning

Err, for C, you'd want to hold the 4th fret.

Or if you think about it...

C is 4 flats (2 notes) below E, so if your tuner uses flats...use 4 for that string! ...and D would be 2 flats, etc.

lol...that's how I do it on mine, and if your intonation is slightly off it works better... lol

Now you're friggin confusing me. Isn't C the 8th fret?

I simply don't get how to do it.. Now I need to tune to (high e to low E) D#,A#,F#,C#,G#,C#

But I have no idea how, you've confused me.

I still don't get it. Why is it the 4th fret? the 4th fret is a G#??
