  • Computer recording idiot here!

I just got me a Tascam FW-1084 firewire interface. Will the soundcard in the computer now have anything to do with the quality of the recording? I'm not sure how that quite works.
    My songs....enjoy! (hopefully )

No, all the input will be going to the firewire port straight into the computer. It has nothing to do with the soundcard.

Okay, that's a great start--thank you! How about when it's all done and I copy to CD which at the moment I do on the computer? I don't know if the soundcard in the computer would then be involved in the transfer to CD or if it goes directly from Sonar to the CD, bypassing the card and keeping the quality.

That brings up another thought...are the CD burners all the same or will that affect the quality of the final sound as well? Got a lot invested in the computer, software, hardware etc and don't want to miss a weak link because I'm computer ignorant.

      Thanks again.

It goes directly from Sonar to cd. As far as I know the burned itself shouldn't affect quality much if any but the cd itself might if you're sending it off to be mastered. If that's not the case though I really wouldn't worry about it.

Nah, these will be one at a time burnings just for friends and stuff. Thanks everybody. Seems like I have what I need now with no weak links (except me!)
