How is he strumming in this short clip

It would appear that the down strokes are his pointer and middle finger, but the up strokes are his thumb. Is this correct? It's just a little different then how I'm used to strumming. Is there a better way to implement this pattern?

He appeared to only use his thumb when doing it slow. At full speed, he appeared to be using just his fingers (his thumb didn't change position), since, like all classical/flamenco guitarists, he has long enough fingernails to get the same sound out of the strings both up and down.
