  • Micing a Valvetronix

Most of the recordings i ever hear on these Vox modelers are all direct recordings, which imo dont sound all that great and are really fizzy and muddy compared to the real amp. But sadly these amps come with some pretty crappy speakers.

I put an SM57 in front of my ad30vt and did a quick stereo overdub. Mostly dry, only did slight EQing just to remove some boomy low end.

Now this is the closest i've gotten to replicate slash's sound, using APH's and MXR108 on the JCM800 model, but the speaker really does not replicate the sound very well. Maybe a vintage 10 will go in there soon.

Nice clip! I found the same results when recording direct with my Valvetronix ad60 head, but I attributed that to a crappy sound card more than anything. I've been recording by mic'ing my cabs with a Samson USB condenser mic with good results.
