If you've never done sweep picking picking before, then i'd first concentrate on the left hand fingering first without any picking. Once you've mastered that at near enough actual speed then try getting your picking hand involved. This is much harder as sweeping requires a great deal of control as usually your hand wants to rush through the notes as if you were slowly strumming a chord but also can go slow that each note sounds forced. If your new to sweeps this piece could take a good few weeks to perfect.

what matt saied is good right. but i'll tell you how i mastered the sweep picking not from songs or anything,i just begined to play the arrpegioes notes in a diffrent possesions slowly then by time i speeded up ,the more possesiones shapes you practice the more nice good touch sweep picking you have.practicing a sweep picking in high speed from the beaginig confuse you ,its like body building overlding musceles you can workout a heavey weights from the first start.

Especially for sweeps the only thing you can do is practice hard and alot. Work with light, medium, and heavy distortion. I find that each of those settings offer different challenges. Light requires you to become more articulate and heavy allows you to learn how to mute with lots of gain. Once you get better at sweeps check out Jason Beckers stuff, hes a master. Serrana is the bench mark test to see if your advanced at sweeps. Thats what I've been practising for awhile and I know if I can play that cleanly, I can play most sweep passages.
