Yeah it sounds sweet with the Tele, but what doesn't sound good with a tele?
I've been really surprised at how versatile it is. Twang on demand, but pretty rockin' with a good fuzz like a soulbender.

They all sounded great as far as sound quality and "tone" goes.

For the first four, "Handy Man", Table for One", and "You Need a Woman", all seemed to lack something . . . probably, "the hook", as Thurisarz eluded to.

"Nothing I can do with my Heart" however, had "it". Great tune, but definitely didn't strike me as "country". Definitely "pop" - but great pop. (I love pop.)

"How does it Feel" was the other "hit". My favorite of the bunch, to be honest. I love the guitar solo's on that. Just a great rockin' song.

The others were "ok", but I'm not sure I'ld listen to them again. Although, "New Shoes" has definite potential. Just can't quite put my finger on what. Its almost as if "How Does it Feel" was the song "New Shoes" was trying to be. Know what I mean?

Anyway, lest you think I'm being too critical - its all far beyond my own level of talent. Good tunes all around.

Hey Artie, thanks for the word. Pitching some tunes to the country pop crowd is different now than it used to be. Country pop can mean anything from country to something that sounds like The Eagles. Listening to Keith Urban and Tobey Keith was quite a revelation. Urban was using 4 Matchless combos and a Marshall for lead (that's country?), and Tobey Keith live sounded like ZZ Top circa 1975 or so... very much a boogie rock thing goin' on with a country-type vocal sound. The leads were just straight ahead ZZ-ish stuff with a definite Les Paul/Marshall inflection. Kind of interesting. I think the yuppy generation kind of mellowed a bit and moved over to thee country-pop side of things. I like it. Seems like a lot of things on KIX 106 here are pop tunes with country embellishments, like a pedal steel, fiddle, something like that. I have learned that I can't ever second guess what someone else hears in a tune. If they like it, great, it must be a great song.

Nice tasty playing. Nice to hear a Bogner used on country blues. Proves they excell at all styles. Nice Tele tone! I've been listening to all the clips. Do you guys gig, or was that just a session?

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Hi Young Angus, thanks for the compliments! I thought the Bogner did really well putting out some great clean and light overdrive type tones. Its got a shine all its own, and it sounds great with a Tele.

Hey Gearjoneser, Bogner's just a fantastic amp. IMHO, the Metro outdraws the Matchless amps. The Metro's Schizo switch provides a huge amount of flexibility, and its not the same type of thing as the 5 position switch on the Matchless. The Matchless switch just incrementally adds mids & bass, if I'm remembering right. The Schizo introduces 5 radically different EQ structures. I'm still learning about the possibilities.

The band did this as a session at first. We are now backing individual songwriters as they appear on the radar screen. We did a few gigs with a local guy here that has a cd with some distribution... even got on TV with that one. We have another one coming up soon.... female blues type singer. Might be heading back up to Nashville for another Martin Anderson session. Also, put in a bid to do the demo for Hurt & West up in Nashville. Angela Hurt's backing vocals on You Need A Woman were really excellent, and Hurt & West are a country-rock type of sound. They might be doing it through Emerald up there, and if so, they'll already have a band in house. But, if you don't ask, you don't know.
