Greetings all -- I know this has probably been beaten to death already, but looking for some current hands-on experiences. Just put a Custom in a Strat build (alder/maple, vintage trem), going for a vintagey feel, brown-ish type sound, not looking to get early EVH exactly, but in the ballpark...

Picked up a very nice and inexpensive PRS SE Akesson (LP style, ebony board, wrap tailpiece), plays nice and was less than $300.... so why not. Has a beefy but bright very LP tone, actually pretty amazing for the price. Anyhow, have been swapping pups in and out of the bridge, tried a Norton...

FWIW, just put a Hot Rails in the bridge of my Fernandes strat (Basswood, 62 specs, MIJ, maple neck). Not a traditional strat guy really, but had time today to mess around. Didn't change a thing except the pickup.... I like it. Was looking for something ballsy, 70's-80's hard rock metal...
