Examples of the JB sounding heavy?

I'll let you know when my band's next album drops, it's all JB through a 5153.

Ernie Ball strings vs everything else

This isn't about what's better, I just need some help from the hive mind. I swapped from GHS Low Boomers (11 - 52) to a set of Ernie Ball Magnum Slinky (12 - 56) on my Les Paul (tuned to C standard) to tighten things up. I swear the low E is as loose if not looser than it was with the old...

    JB equivalent

Les Paul Studio Gothic. Basically the 90s Les Paul Lite with a different paint job.

    JB equivalent

Because I would much prefer to play the Les Paul. 24.75" scale length is just a lot more comfortable for me to play. And like I said, they don't have to sound exactly the same. I like what the JB does in that particular guitar, so I want something similar in a different setup.

    JB equivalent

I could. But the construction of the two guitars is vastly different, both in terms of materials, neck attachment, hardware and scale length. So I don't think simply sticking the exact same pickup into the latter would yield similar results.

    JB equivalent

That makes sense, although I didn't really hear the spike when it was in E standard either.

    JB equivalent

I have a Tone Zone in another guitar and I love it. It was actually my first go-to, but it's already kind of dark and warm, not sure how it would act in a LP.

    Considering Bass Compressor

Couldn't you achieve the same effect with a slower attack setting? Or is the outcome very different?

    JB equivalent

Just outta curiosity: I have Floyded Jackson Dinky, tuned to C standard, with a JB in the bridge position. It sounds fantastic, chugs when needed and cuts through very well. None of the infamous "spike" that some people complain about, at least not in this guitar and this setup. What would be...

What are your thoughts on the Metal Zone

It was the bomb when I bought it at age 15 or something. Along with my Crybaby it turned my solid state amp into a sick metal meltdown machine. Or at least that what it sounded like to my ears at the time. In reality my tone was probably just as grating as my parents perceived it.

    china SH-1n, possibly

Past tense? Did they stop making them? That would explain why I haven't seen any guitars with them in ages, come to think of it.

Where/when did "modern" guitar tone begin?

And then Black Album. Regardless of one's opinion on Metallicas output after AJFA, sound-wise it was a turning point that really set the template for a lot of what metal would sound like a long time afterwards.

Floyd/Evertune vs fixed bridge w/ locking tuners

IIRC, back in the day Ibanez designed a version of their Low Pro bridge which was bolted in place more or less. Still hade some extra routing underneath it, but essently it was a locking trem system without springs or whammy bar. They used it on the early Mick Thompson signature models, and on...

Where/when did "modern" guitar tone begin?

Arguably, it has morphed into something else. Djent-style riffing and low tunings becoming ubiquitous, and then the advent of 8-stting and multi-scale guitars. A lot of the bands coming up in the last few years are using digital rigs and recording tech. When someone says "modern" these days, I...
