Okay, I guess I'm warming up to DiMarzios

John Deere has a trademark on green and yellow agriculture equipment... Velcro and Aspririn are also trademarked. Seymour Duncan has patents to protect its IP by the way. Why Dimarzio cannot?

Any suggestion to replace a JB?

BTW I have a Godin Exit 22 and I really like it. The little cousin of your SD22 ;)

Any suggestion to replace a JB?

I would put 500k pots just for fun. I had a STK-S7 in the neck of my Strat with 250k pots and it was too dark for my taste. I think 500k pots would have worked.

    School me on Squier

The back of my VM Jazz bass was a bit sticky. I've done 2-3 passes of 1000 grin sandpaper and it came as smooth as butter.

    School me on Squier

I bought a new Squier Vintage Modified Jazz 5 string in 2017, mainly to mod it. It's 2025 and the only things I changed are :bridge, control plate and knobs, just because I wanted them in black. I will change the tuners when one breaks as they're not the best, but they keep the bass in tune. I...

How to choose a 5 string bass for a better B string sound?

I have a set of DR Low Riders SS on my Yamaha TRBX-505, they are hex-core and the B string is very good. I bought it used and it had some Daddario (I think) and I didn't really like them. I tried DR High Beams and it was better but the string tension was a bit loose for my liking. I then put a...

    Adjusting my humbuckers height

When I swap I'm using a new pickup rings (it's like $3 each), so I'm sure when I put the original back it's at the exact position I left it.

    Adjusting my humbuckers height

+1 Adjust by ear, a quarter turn makes a difference IME. When I'm installing new pickups I have a screwdriver close for a couple of weeks to fine tune it. Start with the pickup you would be using the most for that particular guitar. Then adjust the other one for balance (tone or volume or...

    Something Different - EMGs.....

I think the Retro Active Fat 55 is closer to a PAF. But I never heard a real PAF so take my comment with a grain of salt. I like the Fat 55 neck but I swapped the Fat 55 bridge for a Super 77 bridge, which I like better in my application.

FS: Rose Pickups Single Coil Set

I have this set and I really like it, in a 2006 MIM Fender Stratocaster. I paid around $80 like 10 years ago if that may help you.

How to choose a 5 string bass for a better B string sound?

I find the B string less defined with passive electronics. I have a Yamaha TRBX-505: clear B string in active mode, less presence in passive mode. I have an LTD Surveyor 5 and the B string is nice and clear: EMG active pickups and preamp. I have a Squier Jazz 5 with passive pickups and...

Have DR Strings Improved Their Consistency?

On 2-3 guitars? I will check but I'm suspicious.

    Something Different - EMGs.....

I have a set of EMG 60/S/S that is doing a very good job on a 24.75" scale Godin Exit 22 with mahogany body. I have a set of EMG Retro Active Hot 70 in a 25" scale Ibanez SZ520 that I also really like. So I think EMG are going well on shorter scale mahogany guitars for me. So yes, go EMG if you...
