Tuning stability : nut, trees, saddles and nut files.

I'm wondering how much of the string should be in contact with the nut groove. Some people believe it's the entire surface, others say it's a small surface. I think Stew Mac also did this: he first cut the grooves at a steep angle and then adjusted the height with a smaller angle. In fact, maybe...

Tuning stability : nut, trees, saddles and nut files.

I have another question. How should the nut groove be cut properly? One school of thought says to follow the string angle, ensuring full contact with the nut. The other school of thought says the string should be in contact with the nut from the very beginning. According to visualizations, this...

Tuning stability : nut, trees, saddles and nut files.

I know what you talking. Actually, I started doing this recently, having learned it from a luthier. The first time I did this was on my bass. It turned out that after putting new strings on, my action was higher. The new string was pushed up through the nut. I simply pressed it in that spot and...

    I mean these.

Tuning stability : nut, trees, saddles and nut files.

Yes, but others didn't use a roller nut and also stayed in tune. I don't have any complaints about the nut on my Fender; it's well-cut and stable. I noticed that the Fender Jeff Beck doesn't have string trees. I tried that too, with staggered locking tuners but the E and B strings sounded poor...

Jeff Beck used his tremolo like crazy. Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, Gary Moore, even John Petrucci has a regular, non-locking tremolo. Somehow, these guys stayed in tune.

Similarly, I spotted a local luthier who used pencil lead first and then applied grease. It works great with bone.

Tuning stability : nut, trees, saddles and nut files.

On my Fender TUSQ XL, it works well. If I bend and then press the string behind the nut (like Jake E Lee), the guitar stays in tune. I can't say the same about my Ibanez. The string angle is greater there. It turned out that bone, pencil lead, lithium grease, and winding the strings upwards...

Tuning stability : nut, trees, saddles and nut files.

Hi! I'm looking for the best tuning stability possible. I'd like to use the tremolo extensively. I also tend to bend the neck with hardtail and I've noticed that it detunes it a bit. As for the nut, everyone seems to agree and point to TUSQ or TUSQ XL as the best options. Regarding string trees...

    Push-push/push-pull pot no load

Hi. Is it possible to disassemble the push-push potentiometer and make it no-load?

    Dimarzio AIR Norton mod

I realized I couldn't do Norton. Air means there's no metal spacer on the screw polepieces, and the slug polepieces are embossed. So I could do a reverse half-air by adding a metal spacer under the screw polepieces. But I think I'll try hex polepieces first; that'll be the easiest mod.

    Dimarzio AIR Norton mod

I can't say exactly which frequencies I'm referring to. This pickup is both dull in sound and can be very bright during the attack, with a bit of an icepick. I'd like a slightly more pronounced sound, without the icepick. I can't say exactly which frequencies I'm talking about, because sometimes...

    Dimarzio AIR Norton mod

Hi! I'm not a fan of my Air Norton in the neck. I don't currently have the money for a new pickup. What modifications can I try with the Air Norton? I've been thinking about hex pole pieces. I'm also wondering if I can get a Norton if I put a metal spacer in Air Norton? Apparently Tone Zone and...

Do you prefer locked or standard tuners?

Did you wind the strings correctly and stretch them?

Do you prefer locked or standard tuners?

I just did some test. I loosened the string so much that the windings on the key were loose. Then I tuned it, made a sharp bend, checked how much it went out of tune, and then tuned it again until it stopped going out of tune. I then repeated the test on the same strings with locking keys. The...
