I've used them with 250k and 500k strat pots. The Tone Zone S is juicy and the Air Norton S reminds me of a Dimarzio Chopper. I have used the Air Norton S in bridge and neck, but the Tone Zone S only in bridge. I don't think the Tone Zone S would make as good of a neck pickup.
I don't think they sound like the full size humbuckers, but nor do I think Seymour Duncan single size JB or 59 sound like their full size brothers either. They have their own sound. I think they're extremely versatile and with a TZ S bridge with an AN S neck, it would make an awesome combo.
I did feel slightly like I wanted to use more distortion with the Air Norton S at first but started to realize it doesn't need the extra gain. It has a slightly spongy but immediate response so to get the harmonics or shreddy runs is pretty easy.
On a clean amp they sound great if you cut the mids a little bit. The TZ can be kind of middy and I personally like clean sounds with a little of the mids scooped out.
