    Wax potting at home

Lindy Fralin just dropped a new vid this morning. I direct you to the point he lifts the pickup from the wax - you can see the dirt come out of the pickup. My guess is they just changed the wax out for the New Year, because the last couple vids the wax has been a bit cloudy. Enjoy!

What 25 years does to a bridge

A new bridge isn't much money. Go for it, and enjoy.

    Wax potting at home

Candle wax has chemicals added to provide scent, color, etc. I'd rather use pure paraffin or beeswax. You never know what might react with the pickup years later.

    Wax potting at home

Candle wax doesn't make a good potting wax, but drive on.

SO... you want to put the toothpaste back in the tube? Good luck.

    Wax potting at home

The chance of fire is HIGH, even on an electric range. Trust me - I know. Beeswax or paraffin burns EASY. I started out in the 70's using a double boiler (a small pan inside a larger pan). The wax never gets hotter than the boiling water. However, about 25 years ago I bought a small Crockpot...

    Milder than TV Jones Classic?

The stock frets on this thing are .040 tall, and the zero fret is a big wide jumbo measuring .055 tall. That is too much to grind down to size. Secured a 2 inch stick of narrow Martin stuff that measures .042 tall. PERFECTO! Now this thing plays as smooth as it sounds. I hear the client will...

pickups and frequency emphasis issues with DIY baritone guitar

Not to be TOO pedantic, but the pickups are part of the actual guitar. It's a system.

    Nut - the least friction

Any nut material can have problems if the luthier didn't cut the slots properly.

    Nut - the least friction

Tusq is just marketing. I won't stock them. I used to make clients buy a blank if they wanted one. Now I won't even do that. IMO it's a shit material. I do like Graphtech's NuBone. It looks just like unbleached bone. If you shape it on the sander it even smells like bone. It works like bone when...

    Solar CHUG LITE pedal

The regular CHUG pedal is for using as a preamp. The CHUG Lite is an actual distortion unit designed to feed into the main input of a guitar amp. It has fewer controls.

I'm going to NAMM for one day

I know some guys who did back in the 80's. I remember TAMA had a solid brass snare that weighed 100 pounds. The reps said if you can pick it up with one hand, you can have it. Billy Cobham one handed it, and immediately boogied out the door with it. Ibanez had a solid brass Ibanez Artist...

    Solar CHUG LITE pedal

On Sunday morning I watch Sundays with Ola on YT and have my morning coffee and a banana... At video's end, I decided to order a Chug Lite distortion pedal from Ola's outfit. I had money left over from Christmas, and decided I wanted something fun that wasn't guitar parts or tools. It showed up...

I'm going to NAMM for one day

I recall the Chicago NAMM shows when they had barely clad "local talent" handing out flyers and inviting attendees into the booths. Hubba-hubba!
