    Signature Model Guitars...Yay or Nay?

The Johnny A. references the Gibson Barney Kessel (which is way cooler IMO). Large bodied double Florentine hollowbody. Drool.

    Spot the Gibson

It is not...though on these models, headstock aside, Epi did a more accurate copy of a '60s Gibson than Gibson did...so it makes sense to think that if you are not familiar with these models in particular. I happen to be familiar with them, owning the Gibby one, and having seen the Epi one come...

    Grounding a hardtail strat

1957 hardtail Strat original innards. Ground wire goes through a drilled hole into the control cavity, then to the jack. There are other ways to do it, but this appears to be the original Fender way. Hardtail Strats were first made available as a "delete option" in 1955.

Favorite 1 pickup guitars and why?

I had been meaning to get one since they were first announced, which was in 2015 or 2016, IIRC. Could never really settle on a color, and they were actually a bit difficult to negotiate on. The most I could get anyone to peel off was $75 for a NAMM demo, considered B-stock, without...

Favorite 1 pickup guitars and why?

Here is a stock photo of the most recent addition to my one-pickup guitar stable. I plan on making a single ply black guard for it. It comes stock with a high output Duncan P Rail, with a three-way switch that gives you P90, series, or rail. Wilkinson VS50 bridge. Grover locking tuners. 13 3/4"...

    Completely floating the bridge.

Yep. That's factory spec. That is within the sweet spot for stock strings and middle of the road playing, but it doesn't mean it's right all the time...just like with factory string height specs. They make these things adjustable for a reason. That said, the vibrato being angled really far...

New Idea for a Strat Build

Well, I am bumping this because there has been a development. I have set aside the idea of using my MIM Strat neck, and purchased this two-piece rosewood neck for the project. 10" radius, medium frets, thick U profile (almost 1"), "vintage" slab style, with a heel adjusting rod and the smooth...

Would you put an inlay on this guitar ?

Floating pickguard. Use the classic Les Paul Junior shape for inspiration. Very rough digital sketch of what I mean:

    Stainless frets

I custom ordered a bass neck with Richlite, white binding, and no inlays. It's basically Bakelite/Garolite – phenolic sheet, just like the early Telecaster/Esquire/P-Bass guards. I plan on using a Garolite guard on the bass, and gloss coating both the guard and the board. It will look fantastic...

    Let's see YOUR #1...

Not so sure I really have a "No. 1" guitar any more. This is probably what I gig with more than anything else, but it wasn't that long ago (early 2018) that I invested in it to replace my old #1.

Unexpected NGD Score! (Black Single Cut Content)

I log into Fecesbook this morning, and I see a notification that there are new group messages. I hate those little red dots, so I just click on it to clear it. Under the group posts are Facebook classifieds. I see a black cheap-o '70s Les Paul copy by Univox, maybe in a TKL 7000 Series case...

    NGD: Classic Vibe '60s Strat

Looks good. LPB also looks incredible with "tort," especially dark tort with the old style wide bevel.

WTT: Duncan Hot P90 Soapbar Set (Cream) for Duncan Vintage P90 Soapbar Set (Black)

I have a set of like-new-without-box Duncan Hot P90s. Cream soap bars. Came mounted in a new guitar, and that's where they will stay until I have replacements. Therefore, I can't give you resistance readings, unless you'd like them taken at the jack (which will be inaccurate numbers). Looking...

Introducing the new Brad Paisley Secret Agent Esquire Neck Pickup!

So how do ya mount the damned thing? It has no mounting ears that I can see. Foam underneath, with the pickup pressed against the bottom of the guard? That would, sadly, limit its use to only its intended purpose: hidden under a guard. And what are the basic specs? Can you get it without the...
