    Marty Friedman appreciation thread

Marty never seemed like a gear guy, from what I can tell his techs/producers would've been more involved with the details of his setup. He strikes me to be a more of a plug the guitar in and play kind of guy.

They pretty much always stuck with a JB right?

    New pups day!

The RTM is hotter, smoother, more saturated. Very harmonically rich with a fatter, slightly buttery low end. Lots of smooth top end presence and head room. The Jupiter isn't quite as hot. It has a more intense midrange grind, thinner and crunchier bottom end. I need to play with it some more.

Jupiter and Sentient in. I have got to say I prefer the RTM and Slash 2.0. I always need to give new pickups a day or two for my ears to adjust. Sentient sounds good but it's a bit flat, dry and lacking low end (in E standard anyway, would be better tuned lower). It's not a bad pickup, I just...

    New pups day!

Yea it was nice and roomy. I am used to HSS guitars with 5 ways. This was very simple, I think I am going to delete the tone pot and move the volume to its position.

    New pups day!

Agreed, looks like a more modern high end Jackson now. I have a good amount of Jacksons, other than the bridge this guitar is almost indistinguishable from a USA model in terms of feel and playability.

    New pups day!

Got this Japanese market Grover Jackson 1994 Soloist Standard, came with J50n in the neck and a 10.8k bridge pickup I have yet to identify, J80s and J50bs were common in these. They were a little dull so I opted to try out the Slash 2.0 in the neck and my tried and true Rattus Tonus Maximus in...

Duncan direct to body mounting screws

I bought a guitar with some Duncans in it, I changed them out and found whoever had installed them had found the perfect screw for direct mounting duncan singles/stacks. The thread pitch was perfect, it threaded through the pickup's mounting holes, then it had a smooth section towards the head...

    Full shreds and pole pieces

Full Shred is a killer pickup, lets you be nice and articulate.

    RTM neck pairing question

Just installed a 59/Custom hybrid. Wow, this is one of my favorite duncan pickups ever. I could have RTMs, 59/customs and some for of Parallel Axis in all my guitars and be happy. The 59/Custom Hybrid should take the spot/function of the JB as the do all, default options for versatile bridge...

    RTM neck pairing question

I would add, the RTM has a high DCR but actually does cleans really nicely and doesn't "feel" has hot as other pickups. My PATB1 felt hotter in the hands. The RTM is a lot more versatile than I expected. I have it paired with an Air Norton S in a Jackson Soloist. Match very well. I wouldn't...

    Bridge Pickups in the Neck

I have a 90s Jackson with their J80C in the neck, I am not sure if it is a neck version of that pickup but the normal J80C is typically a bridge pickup. It sounds amazing the neck both clean and distorted.

Okay, I guess I'm warming up to DiMarzios

I really like their bladed single coil size humbuckers. The Chopper is a KILLER pickup in both neck and bridge The Cruiser is a nice mix of single and humbucker tone The Air Norton S is a killer neck pickup and probably would do great in the bridge as well. The Mirage Neck is actually really...
