New pups day!

Got this Japanese market Grover Jackson 1994 Soloist Standard, came with J50n in the neck and a 10.8k bridge pickup I have yet to identify, J80s and J50bs were common in these. They were a little dull so I opted to try out the Slash 2.0 in the neck and my tried and true Rattus Tonus Maximus in the bridge. These pickups both pull off some incredible clean tones as well.

The Slash 2.0, is just plain killer. I like the simplicity of the old school 2 wire cable as well, the tall pickup ears fit this guitar perfectly because it has a top mount floyd (which I have come to prefer), so the pickups come up out of the guitar body more.

The RTM has become one of my top 3 hot bridge pickups. Hot, articulate, lots of head room with nice buttery A2 thump and low end saturation. Angry, pronounced mid range growl.

This guitar feels like a freakin Les Paul it's so solid. The old school, thick jackson neck heel carve, nice full jackson neck profile. It's a heavy, solid guitar.

I feel this guitar needs some pickups with more edge, bite and upper mid range clarity. So I took this as a good excuse to order a Jupiter 6 for the bridge and a Sentient for the neck as I have been curious to try those 2 for awhile now.

Will post updates when the other pickups come. New switchcraft switch on the way too.20251230_020118.webp20251230_020402.webp

The Sentient should sound better in the neck on that guitar. Save the Slash for something with 22 frets- it will sound the best there.

Jupiter and Sentient in.
I have got to say I prefer the RTM and Slash 2.0. I always need to give new pickups a day or two for my ears to adjust.

Sentient sounds good but it's a bit flat, dry and lacking low end (in E standard anyway, would be better tuned lower). It's not a bad pickup, I just prefer the Slash. The clean tones I got with the Slash and the RTM in the middle position were pretty amazing.

Jupiter is a cool pickup, the mounting ears are level with the baseplate so in order to get it close enough to the strings on a top mount floyd guitar, I had to cut the mounting springs in half and screw it all the way tight to the mounting ring. I like everything about it but it is a touch dry and lacking saturation.

I will probably keep the Jupiter in the collection but the Sentient is probably going back.20260103_222535.webp

Great looking guitar!

Interested to hear how the Jupiter and the RTM compare.
The RTM is hotter, smoother, more saturated. Very harmonically rich with a fatter, slightly buttery low end. Lots of smooth top end presence and head room.

The Jupiter isn't quite as hot. It has a more intense midrange grind, thinner and crunchier bottom end. I need to play with it some more.

That's interesting that the RTM is so overwound that even with the weaker magnet, it's hotter!
