Low and medium output pickups for metal

I have a couple of Slash 2.0 (one in a Les Paul Classic, the other in a Gibson Flying V) and I think they're great for metal. I mean, old school metal, not the djenty nonsense. I have a Burstbucker 3 in an Explorer and that is fantastic for metal despite being far from a "hot" pickup.

Trembucker covers? NGD Alex Lifeson Epiphone Axcess Custom

Thanks, I've actually just ordered a set of covers for regular sized humbuckers with the intention of buying an SH-4. Your link seems reasonably priced, even with postage to the UK so I'll keep it in mind in case I need it again. Not sure if UK customs or tariffs would add a ton onto the...

Trembucker covers? NGD Alex Lifeson Epiphone Axcess Custom

It's about £120-£150 for a gold Duncan. So, £240-£300 for a pair. I got the APH-1 and TB-4 for about £116 used and hoped/expected to get a couple of covers for about £20. Maybe I should buy an SH-4, I know I can get covers to fit the normal, non-trembucker Duncans.

Trembucker covers? NGD Alex Lifeson Epiphone Axcess Custom

I don't think so. I think it's always been like that. On Thomann it's £41 for a gold SD cover! I only paid £47 for the APH-1!

Trembucker covers? NGD Alex Lifeson Epiphone Axcess Custom

I've just bought myself an APH-1 neck pup, and a TB-4 to go in the Alex Lifeson Epiphone Axcess I just got (the stock pickups are crap). Now, I just expected I could easily buy gold covers for them but apparently, from old threads on here, trembucker covers are ONLY made by Seymour Duncan and...

Wax potting pickups that are wax potted from the factory. Why?

As I posted in the Slash APH-2 thread (thought it deserved its own thread) I just got one of those pickups on ebay and it looked like it had been wax potted by the seller. Looking at his other auctions he mentioned a 490R pickup being wax potted "recently" so I assume he just likes to wax pot...

    APH-2 Slash Signature pickups

I've just got one of these, used, from ebay. It looks alright but there seems to be rather more wax on the baseplate than usual. I've tried looking up photos of this particular pickup on the internet and it looks like some DO come with a bit of wax left on the base, while others are pristine...

Is this a real Seymour Duncan?

I've reported this to ebay twice and they do nothing about it. Someone at Seymour Duncan might want to do something about it - there will be people buying these thinking they're getting real Duncans...

WTF is this on my Gibson Flying V ex-robot wiring?

Well, of course, Ace! The first thing I did when I got it was play British Steel. Tonight I played some of the tunes on Killing Machine and Stained Class. And I recorded a podcast theme song with it too. It sounds good in the house and through modelling amps, but it sounded like shit through a...

WTF is this on my Gibson Flying V ex-robot wiring?

Alright, thanks for the replies guys. I guess the 500T just sounds like crap then, nothing to do with the little cap! Kicking myself as a 490T/480R set I was watching on ebay sold for really cheap and I missed it. They would have been perfect for the V.

WTF is this on my Gibson Flying V ex-robot wiring?

Not happy with the 500T in this guitar, thought I'd check the pot values. Found this weird little capacitor. What is this thing? Can I remove it to make the 500T sound better (it sounds full and hot, just kinda fuzzy for my tastes)? This is a 2008 Flying V that used to have the robot crap on it...

Anaconda burst. I changed the plastics, it makes the green stand out more.

    Hamer Sunburst USA 1980

As a fan of Martin Barre I wanted a Hamer just like the guitar he used in the Slipstream video. Well, I didn't quite get one like that (no crown inlays or neck binding) but I did finally get something VERY close! The story is, I had a ton of old pickups in my "Parts box" and some cheaper...

Telecaster wiring. WTF is all this?!

I just bought an old MIK Telecaster from 1989 which has an "expander" pickup. I have no idea what the hell that is, but when I've got the guitar in my hands I was very pleased to discover it's actually a SD Hot Stack that's in the bridge! Probably worth more than the rest of the guitar TBH...
