Most useful / interesting alternative wiring schemes

Neck-on is quite useful. The so-called “7 sound strat” - love it I have both of my strats wired this way, with 2 volumes knobs and 1 tone, and with another push/pull that puts the neck/ middle in series

Most useful / interesting alternative wiring schemes

Interesting! How would you do this? I can imaging it working with a push/pull of some kind, but I’m not sure how you would do it in the middle position of a 3-way

Most useful / interesting alternative wiring schemes

I find this quite useful, though I’d strongly recommend that if you do it, you use a push/push not push/pull (or just an easy-to-flip switch) I use blower switches as “channel switch” between clean and dirty - roll the volume off fo your clean tone, then jump to 11 for dirty

Most useful / interesting alternative wiring schemes

Hey team! Just thought it might be nice to share same interesting wiring schemes we've all used to get the toneezzzz. Hopefully, we can learn something from each other, and potentially used each others' tricks to our own ends. Here are a few I use often, that I wish someone had taught me 20...

    Michael Schenker signature guitar

I love a good Les Paul / SG, but man alive is Gibson an annoying company

    Most unique sounding humbuckers?

Each of the following are pickups I currently use, love, and that are (somewhat) unique 490R with an Alnico IV magnet. I have this in the neck of my main guitar, a les paul gold top. I use a 1M volume pot, a no-load tone control, and a resistor in place for a partial coil split. I know the 490R...

A2 in a JB what changes?

I agree with the above It's still aggressive, but less so. Less sharp, but also less bass thump. A smoother sound overall, also with more sag - more of a vintage rock tone than a modern metal tone. Try it and see how you like it. Our ability to describe tones is, unfortunately, quite limited.

    Wax potting at home

nah, gotta go for the "new car smell" JB. The olfactory / aural interaction rolls off the high mids and tightens the low end in just the right way

Where Do We Stand On Rangemasters?

I had one for a while. It was good, not great. It didn't quite capture the... "sonic expansion" of the rangemaster style treble boosters I've used, so I didn't like it as a way of boosting an amp that was already breaking up. I remember it working well for the metalzzz, as a way to tighten...

Where Do We Stand On Rangemasters?

I love treble boosters! I'm a basement player these days - haven't had time to be in a band / play live in over a decade :( - but I do love a good rangemaster clone. I have a Fulltone and two (slightly different) Analogman Beano boosts I've never played one live... I'd imagine they're a noisy...

    1 push/push for coil split x2 and 1 push/push for reverse phase. It’s on a LP.

Just throwing this out there - since you have two other pots available for switching, etc., you could wire one of them (probably the neck tone control) to be a bass cut / treble cut directional tone control, or a simple push/pull bass cut in addition to being a standard tone control. This can be...

    A3 vs A2

I'm quite partial to A3 over A2, particularly in the neck position. I agree with the prior sentiment that it lessens the bass and increases the treble a bit, which to my ears, evens the response across the board (this might be what you mean by a "wider range?"). I also think there's a little...

    Wax potting at home

thank you all for your input the delay between when I think of a project and actually execute is far, far too long - I'll report back when I'm done

    Wax potting at home

I'm a serial modder, and have lots of odd wiring / switching schemes, and I habitually magnet swap as part of my chasing tone. In the process of mag swapping, I have a few pups that I've mag swapped so many times that I think I've think I've made them microphonic. I've seen youtube vids of...

Looking for a pair of complimentary humbuckers for hard rock/heavy metal

Some bridge PUPs I've tried that really thread the needle between modern and classic are the SD Perpetual Burn and the Dimarzio Air Norton (in the bridge, not the neck). I think they would absolutely fit the bill. I also think that if you did one in the bridge position of each guitar, they...
