  • I need a good gritty fuzz

I have GAS for a new Fuzz. I want something grainy and gritty ala Jack White or Dan Auerbach. I have plenty of buttery smooth overdrives and distortions, I want something the polar opposite.

Those guys use various Big Muffs for most of their dirt. My favorite Muff variant is the Black Arts Pharaoh.

Yea the Pharoah is a BMP with a lot of options. May want to look for a Black Cat Fuzz or OD. The OD stages up like a fuzz face or a ds1 with a gritty, nasty loud top end but the ability to calm it down.

The Pharoah has clipping modes all over it.

You want a Univox Super Fuzz. Big, mean, and can sound like velcro.

You won't be able to get one now, as the wait time is around a year (free to get on the wait list), but you should really hit up Paul Trombetta. He makes some of the most incredible fuzzes I've ever played and he's an awesome dude. My Bone Machine is my favorite fuzz pedal by far.

Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian or Caprid, Blackout Effectors Musket, Black Arts Pharaoh, Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe... Plenty to choose from.
The new Earthquaker Devices Cloven Hoof sounds pretty gritty and rude to me. Affordable to. I'd check that out for what you're going for.

All good calls. I was thinking about simply going Nano Big Muff my only reservation is I find EHX to be generally noisey. I haven't used them in years I am wondering if they have gotten better.

My Soul Food isn't particularly noisy, or at least I haven't noticed if it is.

I bought the nana bass big muff a while ago. It's quiet and massive.

Re: I need a good gritty fuzz

Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz, clone of a Jordan Bosstone, pretty gritty to me. You can get a little more bass on it than some of the other 60's style fuzzes (Mosrite Fuzzrite, Maestro Fuzztone, etc.) I was surprised how bright some of those are.

Or heck, why not a ZVex Fuzz Factory? Also, Analogman Peppermint Fuzz has been on my GAS list for a long time.
                    Oh no.....

                          I second this.

Oinkus let me try that pedal out and it is wild. Its got more balls than Chuck E Cheese
