Folks-
I just installed a set of Quarter pounders in my tele, here's a report.
First off mine is a Lite Ash Tele by Fender. Made in Korea, she came equiped with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro single coils.
These were nice enough for traditional tele tones, but I needed more midrange and output for my tastes. I play in an original Souther Rock group and go for an early 70's Marshall/Bassman Rock tone. So the Alnico Pros were too thin. I would roll the tone half way down and play mostly on the lead pup.
Well after posting a few questions to a couple of forums I desided to try out Duncan's Quarter Pound tele set. To be honest the sound files at Duncan's site had a lot to do with it. They sounded just like what I was looking for.
And they were.
I tried them out yesterday at rehersal and they were great! Nice and full, with a well balanced midrange. Not overly honky at all. And not too hot either. I only had to turn the gain on my Rat pedal down a tad from the setting I used with the Alnico Pros.
Insted of rolling my tone half way down, I just turned it down a to maybe 1/4. And rolled it up all the way to really cut threw.
The best part was that the neck posision sounded great for a change! This was just what I was looking for. When I listened to the recording we made of this rehersal I heard the woody churp I had been missing before. Cool!
So I am very happy with the Duncan Quarter Pounders. And the tone of my tele is whare I need it to be. It's full and strong, with all the cut I was looking for. A real rock'en tele tone! And that's what I was going for.
