1 Humbucker 1 Volume 1 Tone 2-way Toggle Switch

Re: 1 Humbucker 1 Volume 1 Tone 2-way Toggle Switch

Parallel is thin and can be brittle depending on the pickup, the guitar and the rest of the controls.

My experience has been that the more PAF-ish the pup is, the better it works parallel. An A2-Pro works great. A Distortion . . . not so much.

So far the only PAF-style (or otherwise vintage-output) pickup that I like in a mode other than series is the PGn, and that is in split mode. Generally, it seems as if there's just not enough inductance. I would rather go with singles (true, stacked or HB) for that kind of sound instead.

FWIW, I really liked an A5 SH-6N with short screws in parallel in the bridge. I still preferred it in parallel when combined with an SSL-2 in the middle, despite the hum. It had one of the best clean tones I've heard from the combination of a humbucker with a single: bright, clear and even through the lower treble. It had some decent body for what it was with minimal quack. An RC was required to give it additional definition with gain and complicated the overall switching. For this and other reasons I decided to go in a different direction.

I can't speak for the SH-6 (not a fan), but the 500T is excellent in parallel. The DP227 is good in parallel mode, too. When combining HBs I prefer both split (that should be obvious); partially split in the case of weaker output.

See, I haven't found a parallel setting for any humbucker I've liked. I've always liked split better. I keep trying, because many people swear by it, but it just seems sort of neutered to me. I ain't gonna give up, though.

Parallel/split/series all have their own tone. I use single coils, still use all of them (single/parallel/series), and want to have that option.

When in doubt, I've noticed better to add the options, play it out and test thoroughly, then finish the project by cutting out all what you can't find use for.

wow, thanks for all the replies, but im not getting rid of my pots, and i just want to use the toggle, also, thanks for letting me know that a push/pull is wired the same as a toggle!!!, )and btw, this is kind of my EVH setup, its an SH-5)

And btw, i didnt want the three way because, first off i dont want the option, and playling live the simpler the better having to fumble with a 3-way toggle sucks, a two way is much simpler, just smack it in that general direction, more consistent imho. thank you all for replies!:yourock:

So do I. I have Jaguar type two-way for parallel/single where strat volume is, to compliment the push pull pots. Really fast and simple to use, but low enough not to be in a way at all.

Those switches are great!
