1 Humbucker, 3 Way Switch? Wiring an SH-9 in an Esquire

Re: 1 Humbucker, 3 Way Switch? Wiring an SH-9 in an Esquire

Okay, so today I finally got round to wiring the guitar up (it's a bank holiday in the UK)!

So far, I've only had about a 15 minute play with it but these are my initial impressions. I was running the guitar straight into an EL84 Plexi style head with a Fane F70 loaded 1x12 Cab.

The SH-9 sounds great, it's perfect for this guitar! It's very snappy and almost twangy on the low strings (which I love) but the high strings aren't at all 'ice-picky' - the strings are really nicely balanced and the Silverbird has great articulation and clarity.

My (other) main guitar at the moment is an esquire with a Catswhisker TP-90 in (which is a neodymium pickup with screw poles, obviously aiming to sound like a Tele - P90 hybrid) and in some ways the Silverbird sounds like a bigger, higher output version - there's something of its snappy/twangy character with the high end of a single coil. It doesn't sound at all thin, though, but sounds huge!

It's really interesting when coil splitting it, too. Unlike basically every other pickup I've used (except possibly the SH-3), the coil split sound is not that different in output but just takes away some of the girth.

I really like this pickup, it's very open sounding and I love the single coil like qualities it has! When I've had some more time to play it and get used to it, and put it through my Vox and my pedalboard, I'll give you all an update [emoji4]

I like that setup. I'm really intrigued by what you're doing with just one pickup. My electrics currently have only a single P90 with volume and a jazz switch I wired in place of a tone knob.
Nice, sounds really interesting! I'm really getting into single pickup guitars, they do everything from clean to heavy so well. Do you mean like a jazzmaster circuit instead of the tone?
