allthough, i almost never seem to find an excuse to use the middle pup on a strat =P
I feel the same way sometimes... But with my fat strat I use the middle more than the neck... It all depends, but I think 3 pick-ups does offer more variety of tones and sounds.

Or if your name is Eddie Van Halen (for the 70's and some of the 80's) :D

Seriously though, I don't have a whole lot of use for a neck pickup. I'm able to get a good rhythm or lead tone from a bridge 'bucker and a volume knob.

Do any of you neck pickup enthusiasts ever pick up an acoustic and say "This thing sucks because there's no switch to make it bassier" ? :)

I love neck pickups and I have them in all of my guitars. But I was thinking the same thing about EVH. He got any kind of tone he wanted with those one pickup guitars in the early years.

but if i do remove the pickup from the neck, how would i cover that hole left if i wanna take the neck out
Well, you meantioned cement earlier... That isn't necissary. Some guitarists I've seen pictures of who have taken out the neck pick-up, just leave a hole there.
If you have a Fender Strat, I can give you a pick-guard that only has a hole for a bridge pup. I'll probably never use it.
I've also seen people put duct tape over the hole after removing a pick-up. Or you could just live with it, you can have the pick-up there and not use it.
You could lower it all the way down, then use your switch for some kool on/off effects.
Just some ideas, Rock On :smoker:

i very really use my neck pup, but it doesnt mean i dont like it! its just nice to know its there.
.... But as far as 1pup not being versatile... ever played a las paul junior.... possible one of the most versitile guitar's ever made!! Any sound can be coaxed from that simple little P90, especialy if you wire it with a treble roll off capacitor on the volume pot!!! once i sell this spare kidney im gonna get one!!

It worked for Malcolm Young!

Re: 1 pup or 2??

I'm a big fan of single pickup guitars. I'm of the view that sometimes simplicity can be genius. There is just some thing about a guitar with one good pickup, through a good amp that I love. You don't have to mess with anything, just pick up and play! My sg is a sigle pickup model, I think this is the guitar I've been searching for. It just needs a fret leveling (damn Gibson) and it will good to go.
