1 x 12 cabinet help (Avatar vs. Mesa vs. etc...)

I've decided to downsize my rig a bit since I have 2 little kids and rarely gig these days. I am going to switch to a 1x12 cab to take up less space.

Is there a compelling reason to spend the extra cash on a Mesa cabinet (or Orange, etc...) vs. Avatar? I've played my Mesa Quad through a friends Avatar 2x12 and it seemed fine and I've had a Mesa 4x12 (that I will sell locally) for years. I don't mind spending extra if there is a good reason, but I don't want to pay for a nameplate on the front.

The Avatar cabinets are well built. But there are different style 1x12 cabinets from Avatar as well as Mesa. The different styles/dimensions will make for a different sound with all else being the same. Besides the more rectangular style cabinets, Avatar has a 1x12 cube in their traditional cabinet line. I think all Avatar 1x12 cabinets have an option for a convertible back panel for a $15 up charge. So, the cab can be run closed or partially open. And Mesa has at least 2 different style 1x12's as well. Point being, it's really not as simple as which is better. And "problem" being that the chances of you finding all the cabinet styles and brands to try out is slim, especially the Avatar. Because personal preferences vary so much, I don't think anyone can tell you whether it's worth the extra money for YOU to pay for the name. The advantage with Mesa, or Orange, is that you have a better chance at tracking the cabinets down locally so you can plug in and audition them in person.

Quality....any of them are great.
Sound.....you would have to have access to them to know for sure, but i do not think it will be anything you cannot Deal With/Compensate For.
I would say go with price, size, look, color that pleases you and be happy with whichever wins your vote.

I went 1x15 it gives me the portability of a 1x12 but the fullness of a multi-speaker cab. I am digging it.

Check out the Bogner Cube 1x12. I have two loaded with different speakers and they definitely sound big. Just a great sounding 1x12 that doesn't sound small or boxy at all.

For 112 cabs I prefer the ported designs like the thiele.
Randall also has some ported 112 cabs for the thrasher/diablo, but I've never played one.

Yeah.....not for everybody (what is.?) but i dig a 15 as well.
What speaker(s) are you using.?
