10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

I thought the Jackson Kelly was pretty cool, ended up "settling" for a Carvin V220. Glad things worked out that way. :)

I'd have to check with importation laws, but you can get the FAL pretty easily in Mexico (about 20 min. drive from my house :) ). I'll let you know. :burnout:

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

Fender HM Strat with a cobalt blue, crackly faus stone finish.

Ibanez Jem, either a swirly neon green or orange with matching neon pickups!

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

When I first started playing, I gassed for an ESP KH-2... then an ESP Viper, then I had a GAS list consisting of around 5 Les Pauls all of same model but different colours. Now I just can't dig Pauls at all. With my recent discovery of Maiden, I have dug strats and my GAS list has become more realistic (but does not contain them). I will always use SD pickups and only SD pickups, but prior to that, I dug DiMarzio - for whatever reason I don't know. They seemed cooler... SD seemed boring. Boy, how I was wrong! My friend who was a forum member here (only posted a bit - he had a Faded Brown SG with Ben written on the pickguard) and introduced me to this place.

If you get one, KEEP IT! Wish I had :)

10 years ago, I wanted a Jackson with 1 'bucker & a floyd. Still haven't gotten one, either :laugh2:

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

In 2004 I gassed for a little black sexy Korean "Legend" brand copy of the Music Man EVH that came stock with a pretty nice maple neck, a somewhat distinctive, pretty resonant plywood body, crappy hardware and the worst stock p-ups you can ever imagine. That guitar hung in the store for a year and I was a student, I worked my guts out in the summer for getting it. On the day I had enough money I ran to the shop and it was closed, for two more months or so. Then on the opening day I bought the little beast, carried home and began modding it: quality hardware, Duncan puckups, laminated top... At the end of the year it forged into a reel magnificent axe. With my previous band, in 1995 with a fresh released record we played on lots of big festivals in my country and the Legend (the axe, I mean) was seen by many people. Funny, but many guys thought I play a real Music Man (I masked the "LEGEND" headstock) and I know for sure I inspired a couple of younger guys (with MUCH money, not like me) to buy a real Music Man. I looked/sounded cool enough with my copy, I guess :laugh2: Ernie Ball owes me one :smack: :D

In the following 6 years or so GAS avoided me. Then, it attacked on a lethal way in 2000 when I found the Warmoth online shop...

I've only been playing for 7 years, but 5 years ago i really wanted an Ibanez JEM 7V, a white gibson les Paul Custom, and a 50w Marshall JCM800 half-stack.

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

the first guitar i really got GAS over (about 4 years ago) was a black Gibson Les Paul Custom. To this day, that gas has never gone away, that thing is truly gorgeous...

It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine... :notworthy :naughty:

5 years ago was right around when i started playing. i reeeeaaaly wanted an american series strat, and any amp that was better than the little squier practice amp that i had. and if you had ever told me that in 5 years i would have an SG and a mesa, i would not have believed you. hell must have frozen over :headbang:

10 years ago? An all day marathon of "Thundercats" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" would have been HEAVEN haha.

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

10 years ago, I was a GAS machine! That's when I was buying/selling/trading like a madman. Looking back on the late 80's and 90's, I've owned way over 100 guitars, and at least 65 amps. I was in a constant state of playing gigs and running to guy's houses with cash to grab their gear, then relist it for a profit. It was the only way I could fund my high priced lust for gear, when I only had crappy day jobs.

My prized piece back then was a 95 PRS Custom 22/birds that had THE BEST vintage sunburst flametop I've EVER seen. The guy that owns that now has a guitar that's just increasing in value. I'm serious, I've never seen a better tigerstripe flametop than that guitar. I kick myself for ever selling it.

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

10 years ago? Original BC Rich Warlock, like the ones that Lita Ford played. Actually, I wouldn't mind owning one of those now.....

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

Ten years ago the only amps in the world were Marshall, Fender, and Peavey. I also thought that distortion could only come from a stompbox....I had no idea you could get an amp to distort....

Back then, my guitar had two skinny pickups, and a fat pickup. One day some other kid started talking to me about my humbucker...I gave him a puzzled look and walked away figuring he was talking gibberish or something.

That said, 10 years ago I wanted a Marshall amp and the biggest "speaker box" in the store. That was about the limits of my technical knowledge.

Re: 10 yrs ago, I gassed for...

Five years ago, my idea of a good time was a nice strat and a mesa blue angel. I had a decent strat at the time, and bought a BA about 4 years ago. I was also coming to the conclusion that I liked teles, and also had a chance encounter with the very 76 strat that I now own. I called the owner several times a year to see if would sell it before I finally got it.

Fifteen years ago, I had one guitar on my mind: a hot pink Kramer Baretta.
