CL dude trying to sell me one.
Not in this life.
They're listed online for $899 gtfo.

Craigslist home of the $900 Squire Strats & $1200 Epiphones.
Never met either i had to have.
A good bust in the mouth would burst that bubble.

Since when does any Epiphone made in the last 30 years elicit or deserve an above-$600 price?

Did they really up their game by $300-500 worth?

This price BTW is par for the course for guitar gear (hell, pretty much everything) what with the COVID shenanigans and inflation goings-ons.

Take a look at 3rd party sellers on Amazon, for example.

If anything, this may indicate it is time to sell stuff you don't use much.

The Elite/Elitist Series were worth some extra bucks. I think they cost about double what mid 2000's regular Epi's cost. They built them in FujiGen factories in Japan. Stopped shipping any to the USA after a few years as they could hold their own against Gibson's of the day. This is my LP Custom, which originally had my Avatar Brobucker, but features P- Rails now.

I bought an Epiphone Les Paul modern s couple months back for $649 and it was worth every dollar. Even came with locking grover tuners. I changed the pickups but the guitar is very well built, ebony board, except for some small QC with the paint, it feels similar to my Gibsons.

I seem to recall "Elite" Series getting rave reviews a decade or more ago.

Sounds like they were a (happy) anomaly and now based on what you said they don't do them anymore. Is that correct?

I'm curious if they've actually upped their game with their regular models. Theoretically they could have, but... who knows?

Looking towards the somewhat-near-future: If the Epiphone Les Paulseseseses get to the same price I paid for a Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty back in '89 ($1600), I'm gonna be really pissed.

Exactly what timeframe are you looking at? Epiphone today is not the same guitar as 20-30 years ago. My 2004 Epi is okay, but mostly because I have done unspeakable things to it. Most new set-neck Epi LPs blow it away. My 2020 Special P-90 (which has been Plekd) absolutely destroys it.

Ah.

No, not unless they snuck them back in. If so, they will never ship them out of the Far East. They went so high-end with them over there, they actually put true Gibson headstocks on them. I think I paid $800-$900 for mine back in 2006.

I've touched a ton of Epiphones and owned a 2004 LP Standard Plus. In the 90's I worked at a music store full time for a few years and part time for a few years. In around 2002 is when Gibson/Epiphone had their own facility open in China. The earliest ones were better but still needed improvement / adjustments. My 2004 was really nice. They gradually got better over the years and I have to say that since the 2020 models with the book matched headstock, yes, they have definitely upped their game. They feel and play so much better than older models by a long shot. $500 worth though? That's the market/inflation talking there. I wouldn't hesitate to get a LP Standard Goldtop or Ebony. Any "signature" models, like the JB here, will be higher priced because, well, signature model.

I think newer model Epis under $1000 are a steal. They look, sound and play great. And if you're into the PAF sound, then even their new pups are very good.
