I think A 12 string acoustic is more useful as it can be a rhythm guitar on a lot more tracks and not as annoying to play as say a ric but nothing is as cool sounding as a 12 string ric that said I am a massive fan of the jangly guitar arpeggios stuff if your not a fan of that I think they are pretty much useless and not worth your time. I have only got to play one 12 strings Ric (had 6 strings in the family for ages) hope to get one sometime in my future (probably a vintage style 360 one with the more horseshoe looking rectangular tailpiece).

I have an old 12 that needs the bridge reset. It's been a wall decoration in my studio for like 15 years now. I pulled it down about a year ago & started getting ready to pull the bridge the rest of the way off. After further investigation I found the guitar doesn't have a bridge plate (probably why the bridge lifted in the first place). So now I have to make a bridge plate first, blue that in, then reattach the bridge & we should be good to go. I may just take it to my Luthier to have it all done. It was an inexpensive 12 string when I bought it in 1972, but by today's standards its not a bad guitar. It has a Brazilian R/W fingerboard & the back & sides are maple, the top is solid spruce. It always sounded good, but I never really like 12 strings. I think they kill all the harmonics that a 6 string normally has. They have their place but I can't see me using it all that much. Maybe that's why I haven't done the work to it that it needs...
