12ax7 replacement question

Re: 12ax7 replacement question

I rock and roll sweet susie.

My playing style is heavily geared towards rythm playing. No downtuned metal or finger tapping madness. But I do like to learn and write a solo or two my own as well.

Pixies(I need a tele!), Nirvana(sell me a polychorus!), Smashing Pumpkins(Big Muff What?), Weezer(buddy holly specs?), Local H(put a bass pickup in my guitar?) (that 90's stuff everyone here hates)

Re: 12ax7 replacement question

I see you have the Pinnacle 2 by Indyguitarist....how is that for high gain?
Well I play teles so it isn't as high gain as it would be for humbuckers (which tend to more common for high gain sounds). I also use it with el84 style amps that add their own flavour but on the right settings it is my main lead sound. I have found it prefers on the edge base sounds rather then clean. The song NEXT TO HER on my bands myspace has the Pinnacle II used for all the lead tones.

Re: 12ax7 replacement question

I switched the tube in my Kustom tube 12a with a Mesa 12ax7 tube that I got from my local Guitar Center. The change was so subtle, that it really wasn't even worth doing. Keep in mind....I'm playing thru the headphone out...not the speaker, although I did test it through the speaker.

Basically what I discovered is.......... I wasted my money and time! I had the Vox AD30VT before....and after fiddling with its settings and eq, I was able to get what I was looking for.......and be happy!

The Kustom is not a bad amp....but for me....it is more of a one trick pony that does an average trick. I've found I'm much happier with my vox....and until something else as versatile comes along.... I'll be just fine! Thanks to everyone who gave some insight!
