hey ive seen the 12ax7 but ive seen it as 12ax 7 wa and a wb version ,,whats the difference??

tubestore.com may be able to help you with code numbers. I wish I had it memorized.
Sovtek does it the most. They offer A, WA, WXT, LPS??? The LPS is the best of them. I think A is China, and the W's are Slavic? Not quite sure.

Next time I retube, I'm buying Svetlana "winged C logo" EL-34's or 6L6's
and Sovtek 12AX7 LPS pre's. My guess is that it's the best current tube compliment
you can buy. I also love the Tesla JJ E-34L's for 50W amps. Huge tone!

I've racked my brain, and come up with the same theory. :22: Svets or JJ's in the power section and LPS's in the pre.

the wa were the plain jane no frills tubes, and the price and tone reflected it. the wb was the next generation of it. the LPS is the spiral filament version. they have lower noise. all are sovtek.

i just got a set of winged c's for my marshall SL-X !!!!!!!!!!!! couldn't deceide between them and the JJ tubes for a 50 watter

You wont be disapointed. I replaced the stock tubes in my DSL with "Winged C" Svets and I love them. Great full EL based tone. I haven't tried the JJ ELs but I would imagine they are killer too. I had JJ 6L6s and I was very pleased with them as well.
