how do 15" speakers sound for guitar, to they add alot of bass or make everything sound mushy? thanks

Re: 15" guitar speakers

The Fender Vibroverb is a 40W amp with 1 15" speaker. Its an awesome sounding Amp. SRV used them as well as others. I think with single coil pickups they sound best, with HB pickups they do get a little thick for my taste. The Jensen 15" are really nice all around speakers.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

Hard to beat a P15N or a JBL D130F for those tones...Celestion made some great 15"'s for guitar too---kinda hard to find.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

A friend of mine has had a couple of amps with the Eminence Big Ben 15" speakers, one was a Fender Tweed Pro clone, and he currenly has an old Alamo Fury, both amps sound great , nice clean and OD tones, the Big Ben is a killer speaker, I'm going to get one for an ext cabinet.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

The Fender '64 Vibroverb Custom is an AMAZING amp! A nice big clean sound and then when you crank it, you get that fat, pleasing, edgy blues tone. Really great overdrive. SRV liked to use his Vibroverbs in conjunction with the higher-headroom Super Reverbs. Those are my two favorite Blackface amps, humbuckers or single coils. And also, the Pro Reverb is sick too, played a real vintage one. That was awesome.

I find that 15s just give off a thicker, almost dirtier tone. Never tried a Tweed Pro before, but I'm sure that is truely a crunch machine.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

I have a peavey session 400 with a 15 in it for years. That thing could take anything you put at it but didn't handle distortion well at all, farty n stuff. I thought it was bright too. I'm coming form a metal perspective too remember.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

15's sound amazing for clean sounds or slightly broken up sounds. They don't handle distortion well because they lack midrange.

guess i shoud have said that im from the same perspective, dont play alot of clean.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

I don't know---I crank up the tweed Pro with a P15N and some P90's and it sounds like a tenor sax; plenty of midrange.

Stick with 12's. I use a Carvin 2-12 combo with a single 15 cab which gives me the best of both worlds. I used to use a 2-15 Fender Showman cab but it just doesn't cut thru with distortion.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

old thread resurrected here. Ive got an amp with a 15" SRO, and its great for cleans and bass, and Ive got a Sunn2X12 cabinet with 15" magna speakers that are pretty cool for crucnch. One the other hand, I had a 2X15 peavay cabinet loaded with EV Force 15's and it didnt sound all that great for guitar work.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

I get tonsa Bass outta of the 15 incher in my '68 VibroClone. It's gotta huge sound to it, a real bluesy, SRV sound. Its a 15 Weber California series, I don't think there's one better.

Re: 15" guitar speakers

for metal?

Dimebag used em alongside his vintage 30 loaded cabs, didn't he?

I saw in a magazine that the Creed dude did too. Say whatever about Creed, but the dude had some nice rhythm sounds....

I used to have a Marshall 4x10, with Fanes in it, I believe. I always thought something like that with some 15''s next to it would be positively phat-arse.

or, some 18"s? if yer naughty?
