15" Speaker Needed

Greetings, i just picked up this here Magnatone Model 150, dual 6L6, dual 5y3 rectos, 25w 1x15 combo, and a Jensen P15N that is so beyond crusty & toasted, that I'm gonna opt for a new 15". Thus far, the budget friendly choices are the Weber 15A125A ribbed Alnico 30 watter, OR a WGS G15-C 75 watt ribbed Ceramic. No doping. I've never heard any of the above or any other 15"s, but what i do want is a nice high end for clean Strat stuff but with 'fairly' early breakup when pushed. It's not a terribly loud amp, but it's got a nice on the verge of breakup throatiness going on. It has Bass & Treble controls for that extra bit of control. I'm okay wih either magnet type, but I'd like to somewhat approximate the original P15N but without spending $240 or so bucks on P15N clones, & as mentioned, i desire some early breakup.

Thanks in advance for any & all suggestions! ॐ💃🪕

you could recone the jensen. if it were me, id go the 12a125a. ive had really good luck with weber alnico speakers

Isn’t reconing the old jensen an option? Weber does it or The Speaker Exchange from Tampa
I hear yà Hamer.... What about this business of re-magnetizing the P15N's magnet? My local guy, who's good, is unable to mess with magnetism, and by the time I'm done with Weber doing it, with shipping, I'm in it for about $180..... Still worth it??
Help me folks... thnx

yes, 15a125a, sorry. ive used a 12a125a and it was a great speaker, but you obviously are looking for a 15"

is $180 worth it? probably. itll be a great sounding speaker. the old p15n was a top shelf speaker back in the day and weber does good recones. ive had them do a few celestions over the years

As far as i know remagnetizing is only necessary in some extreme cases. Why do you think its necessessary? What happend to the speaker?

alnico magnets can be re-magnitized. i do it with alnico bars using either neo or an electromagnet. my setup isnt big enough to accommodate that big a magnet, but it can be done. id guess weber can do it or at least knows who can if they cant

but how do I know if it even needs it?
Will the speaker not work at all, or weak?

I don't know one way or the other..... it was just something someone brought up. History of speaker unknown but it's just old,,,
period correct, they say!!😏😏

If you are looking for early break up I would try to find a 15" Fender Special Design which came in their Excelsior amp, great early speaker break up. Eminence make the speaker so they are pretty good. You might be able to find one used for short money. These speakers are from the 2000s, there are also some older Fender Special Designs from the 70s made by CTS with not as much break up. The Eminence Legend 1518 is the closest comparable speaker to the Excelsior speaker.

I also use a Celestion Fullback 15, G15V-100 I don't think it would fit the bill for you. Very modern British sounding with tons of headroom being a 100w speaker.

Cool, so the Legend 1518 does in fact have nice & early breakup?

When you push, which is what you want to get cleans at lower volumes or as you roll back your vol on the guitar. However, it should scream with a boost or the amp is dimed.
