150 Dollar PRS knockoff

I was in a dealer this aft. They had a Chinese made PRS Johnny Hiland knockoff sitting behind the counter. I asked to see it and was shocked....it was resonant. I offered them 150 and they said yes.

I got the guitar home and, after playing it for a while, decided it was a worthy project for the day. The pickups were shrill sounding and nasty....really bad sounding. When I got them out I discovered they were Epiphone pickups, had practically no weight to them at all. The original pickups are now in the trash bin. I have a box of pickups and selected a Gibson 500T for the bridge and a Duncan Alnico II Pro for the neck...the pots are 500K. From there I did a quick fret dress and a string change and set up and the guitar is now quite nice. Shockingly, the thing actually stays in tune when using the trem....though it did take a little time to get the balance right.

It is as nice as the PRS SE models I have played.

wow. that's um....interesting.

I will say this much. My MIC Epiphone SG is pretty badass. great sustain, resonant as hell....altogether a great instrument.

Re: 150 Dollar PRS knockoff

I am shocked that the thing stays in tune when I use the bridge. Either I am as good at trem setups as I think I am or this guitar is much better than I thought it would be.

Re: 150 Dollar PRS knockoff

I'd happily use that one at home, on stage, and anywhere really.
It looks cool.

Ah, photoflame. Takes me right back to the Eighties.

Re: 150 Dollar PRS knockoff

Thats too much of a fake for me. I can see atleast a couple copyright violations. I wonder if its even legal to sell in America it doesnt have the PRS branding but it does have the eagle logo and headstock shape. Sorry but people here would be running around with torches and pitchforks if it had fake SD's in it why should it be ok for them to make a fake PRS.

Re: 150 Dollar PRS knockoff

Is there any evidence of refinishing around the headstock? I'm just wondering whether the guitar started life as a Shine or a Crafter, the original decal has been removed and then replaced with the descending eagle decal?

Re: 150 Dollar PRS knockoff

DAMN! $150?
That's less than half of what I have in my build, & it looks better!
I'm jealous
Congrats, & happy NGD

Most importantly, the large majority of people who purchase these do NOT know they are forgeries. It screws over both them and PRS, them because they`re not getting what they thought they were paying for and PRS because they have to spend real money answerin e-mails and phone calls about these things (not to mention thh lawyers when and if they get the green light), creating overhead, driving the price of a real PRS up even further ;)

Just so some `tard who obviously couldn`t think of something original to save his life can make a buck? In other words so he can buy more equipment and employee, and screw over the next customer and manufacturer with his next line of forgeries? :eek13:

There`s a good reason these are illegal to sell in the US ;)
