1962 Deluxe project update

Well, as most of you know I got my hands on a very nice 1962 Deluxe from our very own Lew several weeks back. The down side is that the cab had been abused to the point that Lew had to make a new cab for it.

This thread shows some pics of it in the solid cherry cab that Lew made for it.

Anyway, I ordered a cab for it last Saturday and belive it or not the man that made it (JD Newell) called me today and said I could pick it up anytime this afternoon!!!

It's a solid pine cab with finger jointed sides and a fully floating plywood baffle. I put the original leather handle and chassis on it from the original cab. There are a few niggles I have with the cab...just a few real small things. Im gonna order some more screws for the back pannels and I wish the baffle board was about 1/16 of an inch taller but all things considered the cab looks great! The solid pine cab REALLY changed the tone...it's more resonate than the cherry cab is and this cab has killed off the sharp high end the cherry cab has. Not only does it sound better but now my brown Deluxe is brown again!!!

On to the pics!

looks good! Now I gotta get the chassis in mine! I am so envious of you, I was completely excited to pick up my cab today, but it sucks that you get to play through yours and I don't.:banghead:

Awesome! The cherry cab was a learning experience for me. And what I learned is that it looks gorgeous but made the tone harder and brighter. Was that your impression too Christian? Lew

Thanks Lew! The cherry cab does look great but I did find it to be a little on the cold/harsh side...I noticed it but it didn't really hit me how much it effected the tone until I got it in this new cab!

Nothing wrong with that back panel to me. Let those tubes breathe a bit. Nice amp. An absolute classic. And, I'll assume Bruce has worked on it from time to time, so you know it's smokin'.

The panel itself is fine, I just hate the screws JD used, and the lack of trim washers but like everyone is telling me those are small things, and I'll order some soon anyway!

I assume Bruce has been in the amp and it is smokin!!!

It's had a recently cap job and one or 2 very minor tweaks made to it but Im tellin you guys...this is easily on of the best sounding amps I've ever played through period!
