1962 Gibson Les Paul

Re: 1962 Gibson Les Paul

I got a few hours to run it at decent volume last night. I'd just watched Eric Johnson playing "Cliffs of Dover" on his '64 SG, so I got out the Big Muff. Running guitar into my Green Rhino with the volume maxed, gain almost all the way down, tone all the way up, mid at 12, bass cut a little, into the Muff with the sustain and tone at half into the Super got the smoothest, most singing drive sound I've ever used.

That's sexy as hell! Did you post that in another thread or on another forum? I've definitely seen that somewhere else recently.

No other forums. I've seen a few of them popping up lately, though. I did post a pick of bottom of the neck pickup in The Pickup Lounge.

I could swear I saw a pic of that LP/SG with that ebony block but the pic was posted the other way around (taken from the treble side) and closer to the body. I also remember having a funny feeling in my pants due to that guitar.

Re: 1962 Gibson Les Paul

If you google it, a nearly identical one (albeit in better condition) comes up in images.

Now everybody's gonna think I'm stealing google images of somebody else's guitar :)

Thought I'd posted,but didn't Les hate those?

you did in the other thread. i dont think les liked the look but ive also heard that since he was about to get divorced he didnt want to give mary any of the money from that contract

Re: 1962 Gibson Les Paul

It was the vibrato they used on some of the first SGs in 61-62, which were called Les Pauls. The arm moves opposite how a Bigsby/Fender/Floyd/etc moves.

Re: 1962 Gibson Les Paul

Re: 1962 Gibson Les Paul

Interesting find: I opened up the panel on the back and measured the DCR of each pickup. I know it's not 100% accurate with them in the guitar, but until a pot craps out, this is as close as it's gonna get. Bridge measures 7.51k, neck 8.03k. I have the neck lowered more than the bridge, so the outputs balance very well.
